      4. Better attendance is to be encouraged at the Vigils and prayers. Sister Essie has planned a continuous Rosary, Friday June 16th, commencing at 8:00 p.m. and continuing throughout the night. You are invited to come and join in the prayers for a few minutes or a few hours.

The NDP is also going to support this endeavour

  3. Reporting
  4. Legal- Patrick Murray stated that the legal work was completed, he was pleased with the approach and it was to be filed by the end of the month. We will use the signatures to be attached to the bill. Petitions 485 petition signatures were listed on the web, and Margaret Meurant turned approximately 50 pages over to Marilyn to be used for the lawyer. It was pointed out that Tina Kuchiack had all the parents and children from the Filipino Children’s Liturgy sign a petition which will be forwarded both to the Archbishop and the Papal Nuncio. Prayers and Vigils It was repeated that there will be a Rosary prayer commencing at 8:00 Friday June 16th in the church. All are welcome to come for a short time or long.

Vigils are held ever Tuesday following the noon mass, and each Friday from 8:00 to 10:30. There is a need to encourage more parishioners to take part in the prayer vigils.Communications and Public Relations

The communication messages will continue as organized by Paul Mayer to keep parishioners informed at all the masses. It was determined that the camera would be available at the picnic this Sunday and hopefully many people would discuss "Why they like St. Brigid’s as well as doing a testimonial. Heritage – no discussion as the Chair was not in attendance. There was a reminder to write the letters to the Minister of Culture.Fund Raising. Anne Young was welcomed back from her recent illness. Many useful ideas were put forward for fundraising, and how to fill the pews for all masses. i. Steve Rose talked about an auction he had just completed on Ebay which had raised money. He had been to a Celebrity auction and this kind of thing is quite popular. It is much easier to have small fund raisers ii We want to get more publicity and more people in church. We need to target the tourists, as well as the hotels. Flyers with the masses should be distributed, particularly in the market area, and through the various districts i.e. New Edinburgh, bake sales, iii Bobby Cody will look into a sports club in the hall to attract teenagers. iv We need to link the computer to other web sites – Irish Society, St. Patrick’s Home, the NCC. Flyers in the newspaper was a suggestion that may be very expensive, and postal code is less expensive. Mercury Lounge has a big benefit for a special cause once a week month ? To be looked into. v. The question was raised as to whether we could give a ‘gift in kind’ for some of the labour and materials for the new roof.

  5. New Programs
      1. The picnic for St. Brigid’s is to be held on Saturday July 16th at Stanley Park in New Edinburgh. Bobby Cody and Theresa Carty to co-ordinate. The Club house will have to be booked in advance. .
      2. The celebration for the first commemorative mass of August 3rd 1890 will be held on Sunday August 6th this year.
      3. Procy Belda announced that the Santacruzen efforts will turn over some $4,000 to the Restoration of St. Brigid’s. Thanks to the Philippine community.

5. New BusinessA question from the floor was raised by Michael Valiquette as to whether any arrangement had been made for the transition to Assumption parish. Father responded that he had had a meeting the previous evening, and nothing had been decided. There is a problem as the 12:00 noon mass traditionally taken by the Filipinos, is now taken with a Chinese priest and a Chinese service. Michael suggested, that if we were to go to Assumption or other churches it would be appropriate to place our collection back with St. Brigid’s rather than the receiving church. Father suggested that it would not be possible to do that, as he did not know the financial picture of Assumption. Joanne Valiquette asked if it was necessary to have a draft movement to extend Father’s time. Michael then suggested that we had worked out together arrangements in the past 12 years, which had strengthened us as a community, and he took issue with the Archbishop dividing the community. It is a sad reflection on the Archbishop if he does not recognize what the two communities had built at St. Brigid’s. He considers the move of Father to the new parish a major insult to the Filipinos and especially Father. It is evident that in this directed move the Archbishop does not want the Filipino community at the Basilica. It would also be difficult for the administration of the Sister Eleanor fund, as well as looking after the needy and less fortunate as we presently do. 6. The meeting ended with a prayer from Father to bless our families, and our Church

The next meeting will be June 21st at 7:30 pm in the Church Hall.
