The Chair
reported the Notice of Application to Divisional Court for Judicial Review had been file successfully, on Monday July 17th.
The Archdiocese had been advised that it was coming as a courtesy. The
Affidavit accompanying it outlined our concerns for a hearing, consultation, and transparency in the decisions for the reassignment
of Father Arana, and the closure and selling of the church. Questioned as to
whether the Civil Court could help in this Matter, Jason Dutrizac explained that the Archdiocese is a Corporation and as
such civil laws apply. The date for the hearing has not been established but it is anticipated that it could be in the week
of October 16th. The lawyers are cognizant that the move of the two
priests is intended to take place prior to that date. The lawyers will hold a
meeting with The Citizen newspaper to release information, and will include and interview with Marilyn Donoghue.
The approval
for the $25,000 grant (1:1) has been received and signed by the Lt. Governor of Ontario as the Head of Ontario Heritage Trust. There is
a period of one year that this grant can be used. It must be used for the replacement of the roof. Discussion will have to take place between St. Brigid’s and the diocese. Expenditures above $10,000 require the Finance approval at the Archdiocese.
We also must develop plans and specifications for tender following the actual approval from the Ontario Heritage Trust. The decision must be made by the parishioners if they will release the Restoration
in Trust monies, and the Restoration monies. Please give some consideration to
this dilemma, as if we don’t stay at St. Brigid’s, there is little purpose in proceeding with the roof. Let your views be known.
A
follow up to the preparation of the one pager to the priests will be undertaken by Ann Young to be sent out to all get it
out to all the various parish priests. The Communications group is to look after
circulation.
The postcard
was circulated and discussed. The Prevost from the University of Ottawa, has provided the French text, and it will be
redone on coverstock. There was mixed feelings regarding the distribution of
same, as the exact meaning was not clear. To be discussed further.
4. Previous
Business
The
St. Brigid’s picnic held July 16th was a great success, and a special thank you were given to Theresa Carty
and Bobbi-Dee Cody and respective families, The total revenue for the picnic was close to $800 and the final fund raising
amount was $300. Michaelena McLaughlin was also thanked for her ever present
contribution to the cashiers roll.
5. Events
Plans
for the Commemorative Mass are proceeding well. It was also considered that we
should hold a music event the night before August 12 in the parking lot and on the lawn with Celtic music. The chalk event was also discussed and it was felt we should not be contributors to ‘graffiti’,
and a flip chart or the like should be considered instead.
6. The
meeting closed with a prayer from Sister Essie.
THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY JULY 26TH, AT 7:30 PM IN THE HALL.
