- Sister Essie opened the meeting with prayers, particularly
for the Archbishop and the parishioners in their struggle to save St. Brigid’s.
- The chair discussed briefly, the letter received from Archbishop Brenhan from St. Johns’s Newfoundland. Matt Wuhr had written to him as an mediator, but he
declined on the basis he cannot interfere in another diocese, but closing with a prayer for the parishioners of St. Brigid’s. A draft letter from Jasmine Williams to the Pope was received in the form of a partition. There were some errors to be corrected and then it would be ready for signature for
those who wished to sign.
- The members who had signed as a group were requested by the lawyers to sign as individuals and this
was accomplished and ready for processing. The Assumption Church had its 75th Anniversary on Tuesday
with the Archbishop presiding, along with Father Amyot, and Father Arana. It
went very well. The Archbishop formally announced that the Chinese community
would be leaving and be reassigned to the Diocesan Centre. The coverage in the
media was discussed and the initial thrust will be done by the lawyers. A follow up for the Commemorative mass should also
be done. It was noted that many Judges are retiring, and it is difficult to schedule
hearings.
- Business
The Commemorative
mass was held on Sunday August 13th with a full church. It was a beautiful
day and the reception that followed gave everyone the opportunity to speak to persons that many had not seen for years, and
an opportunity to meet and greet long standing acquaintances who had been to St. Brigid’s in years past. The collection for the weekend was $2,593.00. The Irish ceilgh
the night before and the reception netted $1,481.48. Everyone had a wonderful
time, and thanks goes to the Hospitality Ministry and the Liturgy groups and Music for such an eventful weekend. A program was printed which was distributed during the 10 00 mass.
New masses have been
announced at the Basilica – 4:15 on Saturday and 7:30 pm on Sunday.
The postcards were
discussed. They were considering putting them on windshields, but it was determined that the back of parishes would be better. Steve Rose would do the phoning to the various
parishes and then they would be distributed. Betty Ann and others will distribute.
The letter to the
parishes is ready and will be distributed next week by fax. Michael volunteered
to provide the fax in his offices.
Tina stated that the
Filipinos have to follow Father. They have no choice.
5. New Business
The Chair had a meeting with
Father Amyot and he is looking forward to coming to the church. All the masses
will remain in place, and it will be determined later as to whether any should be reduced.
Ads were placed in the newspapers to advise persons that the Church will continue with the various masses into the
foreseeable future. He is also anxious to meet with us, and blend in so as to
get to know us. A meeting will be arranged next week with the Liturgy committee.
The mass for Father Arana will be held on August 20th. We
will have a special mass at the 10:00 on Sunday to be followed by a small reception.
With Father leaving
it becomes apparent that security will be a prime issue. Steve Rose will do a
security plan as he had some experience in this matter, and will put forward some recommendations. The locks on the church and rectory will also be changed
- The meeting closed with a prayer from Sister Essie with thanks for a successful and prayers for our
parishioners..
THE NEXT MEETING
WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY AUGUST 23rd - 7:30 PM IN THE HALL.
