SAVE ST BRIGID’S BULLETIN #19

September 6th, 2006

  1. Sister Betty Ann opened the meeting with prayers, to help us keep St. Brigid’s alive and that truth, faith and trust prevail.
  2. The minutes of the meeting of August 30th were distributed as they were unavailable for the weekend bulletin. The Chair thanked the group for a few days of relaxation. The weekend was marred by heavy rain and the ceiling on both sides east and west leaked in many places. It has become imperative that the roof be repaired as soon as possible. Marilyn had had a meeting last Friday with Father Tim, and resolved some of the parish concerns regarding operations. . Father is becoming more comfortable but would appreciate it if the parishioners would sit at the front of the church and share the mass with Father. The church is very large and there is a big gap between him and the parishioners. We will close off the two end aisles which will also avoid the wet places.
  3. Old Business

The update on the legal process was given. Marilyn had spoken to the lawyers and the Factum was being filed today. A date is expected shortly for the Examination or Discovery with the Archbishop. It was also the opinion of the lawyers that the Canonical Decree had not been issued. To be followed up with both lawyers.

The Postcards were discussed and Steven R. advised that at St. Mary’s he had distributed over 100, Elizabeth Krug volunteered to see that the postcards were delivered to the City of Ottawa Archives, the Heritage Ottawa, and Heritage Canada organizations.

The Pancake Breakfast planning is all in place for a good morning activity following the 10am mass on September 17th. The cost of the breakfast is $5.00, and children will be free, but a donation would not be turned down. There will be a bake sale as well and all were asked to contribute. A notice will also be put in the bulletin.

The September 13th General Meeting for All Parishioners will be rescheduled to September 20th. Father Amyot is away on retreat this next week in Pembroke, and cannot attend. A Nomination Committee will be appointed to draw names for the councils and the committees.

4. New Busniess

We will initiate our "Make a Difference" program again, with a clean up and polish of the church the grounds and the hall. It is scheduled for Saturday September 23rd, and if necessary a second Saturday will be planned for. Posters will be made and placed at the back of the church with sign up sheets.

As the collection and attendance at the masses on the weekend has been down, we will prepare a letter to all our parishioners advising that the church is not closing, and we encourage them to come back to St. Brigid’s. The choir will be back, programs are already in place including the school program for first communion and participation in the liturgy of St. Brigid’s. We want to ensure that we are a viable parish. Contact will be made with the newspaper for an article, as well as an interview on Lowell Green’s program. We must keep functioning on the participation level, as well as the financial one.

As Msgr. Beach indicated he would be in charge of holding meetings commencing in October for the "sale and future use" of the church, we will also be putting together a proposal. Sister Betty Ann suggested that a follow up should be done with the art program and the City of Ottawa. Elizabeth K. suggested that a letter be sent to the Archdiocese clarifying and rebutting some of the statements made by the Archbishop. Discussion also took place regarding a potential client/tenant for the Sacristy – the Ottawa Separate School Board for a training room during the day. The Sister Eleanor Fund is also functional but requires some funding,

Art Cuenco concluded the meeting with his Work Breakdown structure. A preliminary discussion took place and parishioners were asked to review it and determine which activities they could participate in. When identified time frames will be introduced for the next steps.

Art Cuenco closed the meeting with a prayer of hope and faith that we will get through these trying times for a successful conclusion for St. Brigid’s future.

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY September 20th , 2006- 7:30 PM IN THE HALL. THIS WILL BE AN ALL PARISHIONER GENERAL MEETING
