SAVE ST BRIGID’S

BULLETIN #27                                  November 29th   2006

  1. Sister Betty Ann opened the evening meeting with a prayer, and thanks for our prayers for the work of the group regarding the roof.

The Chair reviewed the minutes from the previous meeting and spoke about the events of the last week or so.  After the Parish and Finance Council Emergency meeting chaired by Fr. Tim approved unanimously the proposal by Cyr Roofing and Sheet Metal, the documents were prepared and delivered to Msgr. Beach at the Diocesan Centre.  Fr. Tim met with Msgr. Beach on Monday November 20, and gained approval for the work to commence immediately.  The cost of the roofing was $217,000 including a contingency and GST. The Parish proposed funding 50% of the total, based on the $25,000 grant from the Ontario Heritage Foundation, and a rebate/or new shingles from the manufacturer.  These monies will come from the  Restoration Fund, and Raise the Roof.  The balance will be covered in a loan from the Archdiocese loan fund.  Work has started as of November 27th, and has now progressed to almost half of the East side of the building.  Hopefully it will be completed prior to the serious winter weather setting in.  The material will be IKO 40 year warranty shingles colour Harvard (a dark mottled gray).  It was suggested that we give consideration to adding a solar panel to the roof so that we may illuminate the cross, and place the appropriate spikes along the ridge of the roof to thwart the pigeons.

  1.  The pancake breakfast was a success and the team has perfected the preparation and serving to eliminate the long lines. The monies raised were approximately $550.  The organization of Steve Rose and Bridgit Guglich along with Jack and Mary Fraser, Gordon Hilchie, and the St. Brigid’s hospitality are to be congratulated for another successful event.  The next will be held on December 17th in the church hall after the 10am mass.

       3.     Old Business

A work party has been organized for December 9th from 9:00 to 2:00.  The intent is to do as much as we can with the parishioners to make the church warmer.  This will entail caulking, and weather stripping and generally plugging holes where the cold air seeps into the church.

The Christmas Bazaar will be held this weekend December 2nd and 3rd.  Requests were made for baking goods.  The tables will be set up following the meeting this evening.  Workers will set up on Thursday and Friday will be devoted to pricing.

The Christmas Concert will be held on December 18th.  in the church.

Ken O’Callaghan and Betty Ward spoke regarding the anniversary event for Sr. Eleanor.  A picture and biography outlining the good works over the years will be installed in the church. The anniversary will be marked on Sunday December 10th at the 10am mass.  St. Brigid’s will also undertake the St. Eleanor Christmas Baskets this year again, and work has already started.  Helpers for the drivers are required and if one can help they are asked to get in touch with Ken or Betty.  Envelopes will be placed in the church on this occasion.  The Grey Nuns have been invited and they are thrilled.  The children of St. Brigid School will also be invited.  The blankets for Sister Eleanor will also be sold at the Bazaar this weekend.   Michael Valiquette spent a few minutes describing the work that Sr. Eleanor did for those who were unfamiliar with her, and the Christmas baskets.

4.            New Business

The calendar of Christmas events will be released shortly and distributed

5.            Other

Discussion evolved over the wonderful homilies which Father Tim gives at the masses and particularly the second small homily following mass.  It was requested that if he had written them prior to the mass, was it possible to get them copied into the bulleting or other means.  It will be looked into for further discussion.  .

6.         The meeting was closed with a prayer from Sister Betty Ann thanking God for the support and response to our prayers regarding the roof.

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY December 13th 2006 - 7:30 PM  IN THE CHUCH HALL.
